Step 1:
If you need to use (or install) STK while off campus (not connected to the Virginia Tech internet), you will need to connect to the Virginia Tech VPN for license reasons.
Find more information about the VT VPN here: https://www.nis.vt.edu/ServicePortfolio/Network/RemoteAccess-VPN.html
Step 2:
Go to https://analyticalgraphics.my.site.com/identity/s/login/SelfRegister and create + verify an AGI account. Be sure to use your VT email for account creation.
Step 3:
Go to https://licensing.agi.com/stk/register/ and press see all downloads.
Step 4:
Install STK Pro from that menu. If you would like to install STK Premium, you must first install STK Pro and then install STK Premium. Similarly, for STK Enterprise, you must first install STK Pro, then STK Premium, then STK Enterprise. Virginia Tech has the licenses for all these versions of STK.
Step 5:
If you are asked for license information, use the following:
Port: 1055
Server: ansys.software.vt.edu
Keep in mind that you will only be able to access the license server on the VT network or VT VPN.
Congratulations, you now have Ansys STK set up on your device.
Other notes:
AGI has an abundance of STK trainings on this website: https://help.agi.com/stk/index.htm#training/TutorialOverview.htm
FAQs
Q: STK is installed but is not working. There is an error message about a license server. How do I fix it?
A: This is likely because you are not on the Virginia Tech network. Even after installation, you must be on the VT network for STK to connect to its license server. If you would like to use STK but are not on campus, you can use the university VPN. To install the VPN, follow one of the guides on this website: https://www.nis.vt.edu/ServicePortfolio/Network/RemoteAccess-VPN.html.
